Several hundred students from the University of Ibadan organized a peaceful protest at UCH Ibadan due to over 80 days of power outage.
According to reports, UCH Ibadan has been without power for the past year due to bad electricity debts owed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC. The power was cut off since March 2024.

NaijaEyes also learnt this wasn’t the first time as IBEDC also performed same exercise in November 2023 for the same bad debts being owed by UCH Ibadan.
The students, led by their SUG president, Bolaji Aweda, staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday morning to state their dissatisfaction with the way things are.
Aweda said, “We are protesting against what is happening. And, of course, our students are affected.
“For 82 days, there has been no light at UCH, and this is due to the inability of UCH to pay its electricity bill to IBEDC.
“IBEDC has demanded that UCH settle its debt before they will restore power.”
At the time of this reports, there have been no comments or statements from the management of UCH Ibadan for the general public to know how much debt is owed.
