Zaria Hotels to serve as new facilities for NCAT students and staff.
The Federal Government has announced plans to convert Zaria Hotels in Kaduna State into classrooms and hostels for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria. The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during a press briefing in Zaria on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
Keyamo highlighted that the acquisition of Zaria Hotels aims to serve as an annexure to NCAT, enhancing its growth potential. “The landmass we have here is enough for expansion, so the potential for the college, in terms of expansion, is great,” he stated. He emphasized that the new facilities will significantly bolster the college’s infrastructure, offering more space for classrooms and accommodation for students.
The minister assured the NCAT management that the government remains committed to addressing areas needing improvement, ensuring that the college maintains its high standards and continues to thrive as a premier aviation training institution. Addressing rumors about the relocation of the college’s fire simulator and other facilities, Keyamo firmly denied such plans, labeling them as fabrications by mischief-makers. “There is nothing like that; if we do it, where are we going to take it to? NCAT is the training hub for the aviation industry,” he asserted.
Acting Rector of NCAT, Mr. Joseph Imalighwe, expressed gratitude to the minister for his visit and unwavering support for the college. He commended the government’s initiative to enhance NCAT’s infrastructure, which will further strengthen its position as a leading aviation training center.
Established in 1964, NCAT is funded by the Civil Aviation Department in the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation. The institution was designed to serve as a comprehensive training center for Nigerian and African pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, and navigation aid technicians. Over the years, it has expanded its offerings to include a flying school, air traffic services and communications school, and an aeronautical electronics and telecommunications school to meet its broad training objectives.
NCAT’s reputation for excellence is recognized globally. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the college is designated as a Regional Training Centre of Excellence (ICAO RTCE). This prestigious recognition underscores NCAT’s critical role in providing high-quality aviation training, adhering to international standards, and contributing to the development of the aviation industry in Africa and beyond.
