Buckingham Palace has announced that President Tinubu would travel to the United Kingdom (UK) for a two-day state visit on March 18.
The royal communications team announced in a statement on Saturday that Tinubu is travelling at King Charles’ request.
Oluremi, the president’s wife, will go with him. In 37 years, this is the first time a Nigerian leader has made a state visit to the UK.

Ibrahim Babangida visited the UK in 1989, Shehu Shagari visited in 1981, and Yakubu Gowon visited in 1973.
Nigeria was visited by King Charles, the Prince of Wales at the time, in 1990, 1999, 2006, and 2018. This will not be the first meeting between President Tinubu and King Charles, both of whom assumed office in May 2023.
Prior to the 28th United Nations climate change conference (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Tinubu met with the British monarch in November 2023.

The encounter was described by the president of Nigeria as a major step in enhancing the two nations’ partnership.
President Tinubu met privately with the king at Buckingham Palace in September 2024.
According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanugua who shared the information via X, the leaders focused on the pressing and intricate issue of climate change while discussing regional and global issues of common importance.

The royal communications team said further details of Tinubu’s state visit programme will be announced in due course.
