Nigerian Afrobeats singer Qing Madi has accused her former record label boss, Joy Tongo, of allegedly forging her signature and stealing from her.
The ‘American Love’ singer made the allegations during a recent TikTok livestream while reacting to the removal of several songs from her new album, Barely Legal, from streaming platforms over an alleged contract dispute.
Qing Madi claimed her former label was attempting to sabotage her career after reportedly losing a $2 million lawsuit against her in court.
“She stole from me, did a lot of strange things, including forging my signature. She sued me for $2 million and lost the case. They took down ‘Pepper Me,’ and my team had to prove it was an illegal takedown. Now they’ve gone through other means to remove the project again,” the singer alleged.
She also appealed to fans to speak up against what she described as unfair treatment, adding that the prolonged dispute has been emotionally draining.
In response, Joy Tongo dismissed the allegations as false, denying claims that she forged Qing Madi’s signature or stole from her.
Tongo further stated that the legal battle is still ongoing and has not yet gone to trial. According to her, the existing court injunction gives the label the legal right to request takedowns of Qing Madi’s songs or projects.
“The case is still in court. The injunction ruling is why we can legally issue a takedown. What case has she won?” Tongo wrote on her Instagram page.
