A security expert, Dr. Jackson Lekan-Ojo, has criticised plans by Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to establish a 50,000-man regional security outfit, arguing that he lacks the professional competence to manage such a structure.
Igboho, also referred to as “Iru Ekun”, “Ija Ekun” or “Tiger Force,” is reportedly seeking presidential approval for the proposed security network aimed at tackling criminal activities in parts of the Yoruba region.
Reacting in Abuja, Lekan-Ojo said Igboho does not possess the training, experience, or coordination skills required to lead a security organisation of that scale.
He stated that the initiative was unlikely to gain serious acceptance, adding that Igboho’s background as an activist and secession advocate could undermine public confidence in the proposal.
The expert also argued that seeking only presidential approval was insufficient, insisting that such a plan should involve the National Assembly as well as the Ministry of Defence.
Lekan-Ojo further questioned the feasibility of the proposed force, raising concerns about training, armament, and operational effectiveness against heavily armed criminal groups.
He stressed that individuals without formal security training should not be entrusted with establishing regional security structures, especially ones of such magnitude.
According to him, effective security outfits must be designed and managed by professionals with the required expertise, rather than former agitators.
He urged the federal government to instead strengthen and restructure the national security framework to ensure wider and more effective coverage across the country.
