There is growing tension in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city following multiple reports of sporadic gun fire along with heavy sirens alarms around certain parts of the city, particularly around Eagle Square, central area at midnight.
Residents closest to the affected areas on social media described the situation as too much gunshots everywhere”
This development raises concerns as it comes only hours after the US president, Donald Trump issued a strong warning of war to the Nigerian government over Christian genocide claims in the country.
In the lengthy message, President Trump said the US “may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
While residents are unsure about the reason for the development, further briefing and confirmation by designated Abuja authorities is anticipated.
