Japan makes history by becoming the first team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
In a bid to secure a spot in the upcoming World Football Event, the Blue Samurai, Japan, has emerged as the first team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Japan qualified for the 2026 World Cup as they thrashed Bahrain 2-0 in the AFC qualifiers.
This will be their eighth consecutive appearance in the World Cup. They have remained unbeaten in their AFC Group C, with 6 wins and 1 draw in their qualifying campaign.
After a goalless first half, they took the victory in the second half through goals from Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kubo. Substitute Kamada scored in the 66th minute, just 3 minutes after he came on, while Kubo, who had been trying his luck since the first half, was able to score a beautiful goal in the 87th minute.
The Asian Powerhouse’s coach, Hajime Moriyasu, showed his masterclass by bringing in Kamada, and Junya Ito to inject fresh energy into the attack, leading to a beautifully executed opening goal.
The blue Samurais have made history as the first team to clinch the world cup ticket, while the host nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States are automatically qualified.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are also vying for a chance to join Japan in the 48-man tournament. They are currently sitting in the 5th position in their group, 3 points for 4 matches.
Eric Chelle’s men play against the Amavubi of Rwanda on March 21, before playing against Zimbabwe on March 25. The Super Eagles gaffer presented a 23-man squad list for the two matches, which are regarded as a must-win if Nigeria.
