The annual PulseSports30 ranking is back, honoring the top 30 Nigerian footballers of the 2023/2024 season. This third edition highlights players of Nigerian heritage excelling globally, from Africa to Oceania. Over the next five days, five players will be revealed daily until the top spot is unveiled.

Rankings 20-16 Revealed

20. Maduka Okoye Maduka Okoye makes the PulseSports30 list at number 20 after a strong season with Udinese. Despite missing out on AFCON 2023, Okoye returned to prominence in Udine, playing second-fiddle to Marco Silvestri initially but reclaiming his spot mid-season. His performances helped Udinese avoid relegation and earned him a recall to the Super Eagles.

19. Nathan Tella Nathan Tella is ranked 19th following a successful season with Bayer Leverkusen. After a slow start, Tella broke into the team, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists, contributing to an unbeaten season. Despite not receiving as much attention as teammate Victor Boniface, Tella’s efforts were crucial for Leverkusen.

18. Elijah Adebayo Elijah Adebayo takes the 18th spot despite Luton Town’s relegation. The forward impressed with 10 goals, showcasing his aerial strength and physicality, and made his mark against top teams like Manchester City and Arsenal. Adebayo scored 19% of Luton’s goals in their brief Premier League stint.

17. Ibrahim Olawoyin Ranked 17th, Ibrahim Olawoyin had an impressive year with Caykur Rizespor in Turkey. The midfielder, who previously played for Rangers International in the NPFL, led his team to promotion and helped them finish ninth in the Turkish Super Lig. Olawoyin’s eight goals and three assists earned him a maiden Super Eagles call-up.

16. Chuba Akpom Chuba Akpom is 16th after a stellar season with Ajax. Despite a poor start leading to the coach’s sacking, Akpom helped Ajax finish 5th in the Eredivisie, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists in 36 appearances. His efforts secured his place in the PulseSports30 ranking.
