Portuguese club, Sporting Lisbon gave Manchester City their 3rd loss in all competitions in tonight’s UEFA Champions League tie. Sporting Lisbon won the match 4-1 with a hat trick coming from Viktor Gyokeres.
The match started off with Man City finding the net in the 4th minute through a Phil Foden strike. Afterward, Sporting equalized in the 37th minute with a cool finish from Viktor Gyokeres.
In the second half, Maximiliano Araújo nudged Sporting into the lead in the 46th minute and Viktor Gyokeres made it 3-1 through a penalty following a clumsy challenge from Josko Gvardiol in the 12-yard box.
Norwegian Erling Haaland had a chance to convert his own penalty chance in the 69th minute following a VAR review but smashed against the crossbar.
Finally, in the 80th minute, Sporting was awarded another penalty against reigning Premier League Champions, Manchester City. Viktor Gyokeres stepped up to the spot and calmly converted it to complete his hat trick.
The match ended with City gaining over 73% ball possession, eleven corners, and 21 total shots but could do so little with it.
Manchester City have lost three matches in a row for the first time since April 2018. City also conceded four goals in the Champions League for the first time since October 2016, 4-0 vs FC Barcelona.
In other matches, Liverpool thrashes Boniface’s Bayer Leverkusen 4-0. Juventus and Lille ended at a 1-1 draw in France. And, PSV shatters Spanish football club, Girona 4-0.
