Several football matches in England have been canceled for safety reasons due to an Amber Alert Weather warning caused by Storm Darragh.
Among the matches canceled due to Storm Darragh is the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool scheduled to hold at 12:30 GMT. Before the match was called off, there was a meeting between both clubs, Merseyside police, and Liverpool city council to decide on the outcome.
A statement from Everton reads, “Whilst we appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, the safety of fans, staff, and players is of paramount importance.”
However, Everton will be moving to their new stadium in 2025 and had hoped this derby would be the last at Goodison Park before they moved.
Liverpool are currently in 1st position, and Everton sits in 15th position. Pundits were giving Liverpool the favourites to win due to their recent fantastic form.
Other matches to be canceled due to the weather warning are Cardiff City vs. Watford and Plymouth Argyle vs. Oxford United. While some matches in Leagues one and two have been canceled, such as Blackpool vs. Rotherham United, Bristol Rovers vs. Bolton Wanderers, Crawley vs. Stevenage, Barrow vs. Milton Keynes Dons, Newport County vs. Carlisle United, and Notts County vs. Colchester United.
