State Police Bill: To Be Set For Tinubu’s Review September 3- Gbajabiamila

The presidency has set a seven-week deadline for the preparation of the proposed state police bill.

On Monday, Femi Gbajabiamila, chairman of the presidential working group on the national policing bill, stated that President Bola Tinubu will receive the executive bill for perusal on September 3, 2026.

Tinubu established a presidential committee in July to develop the legal foundation for the nationwide implementation of state police.

Speaking after the presidential committee’s initial meeting at the State House on Monday, Gbajabiamila stated that the committee set a timeframe of July 27, 2026, to September 14, 2026, to develop the state police bill.

He said administrative and technical preparations for the proposed measure have begun, and the executive bill will be handed to Tinubu by September 3.

He stated that after Tinubu’s consent, a national consultation on the draft bill will begin, after which it will be submitted to the national assembly.

“The approved work programme is a seven-week, milestone-driven exercise running from July 27 to September 14, 2026,” Gbajabiamila said.

“The resulting Executive Bill package is scheduled for presentation to the President on September 3.

“Subject to his approval, a national consultation on the completed draft will follow, after which the text and supporting materials will be revised and prepared for formal transmission to the National Assembly.

“The timetable is demanding, but it is not a shortcut.”
