Strong Warning: Udenta Says El-Rufai’s Continued Detention Is Injustice

A fellow of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Udenta Udenta, has argued that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, should not be held indefinitely in detention over an ongoing investigation.

Udenta made this known on Wednesday during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television. He stressed that El-Rufai is entitled to the presumption of innocence and that investigations can proceed without keeping him in custody.

According to Udenta, authorities could adopt alternative measures such as seizing El-Rufai’s passport and restricting his movement instead of prolonged detention.

“You cannot keep a man in perpetuity in detention because you are doing investigation. That is injustice,” he stated.

Reports indicate that El-Rufai has been in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission since returning from Egypt.

He is facing allegations of wiretapping the office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and has also been arraigned in a separate court case in Kaduna State.
