Ex-NSA chief joins OpenAI board and safety team.
Retired Gen. Paul Nakasone, former NSA head, joins OpenAI’s board and its “security and safety” subcommittee, the AI company announced Thursday. This strategic move aims to address concerns over OpenAI’s rapid model deployment and risk assessment practices. Nakasone’s extensive experience with the Army, U.S. Cyber Command, and NSA provides valuable expertise and reassurance to shareholders, especially as OpenAI expands its influence in tech, government, and defense sectors.
“OpenAI’s dedication to its mission aligns closely with my own values and experience in public service,” Nakasone stated in a press release. Both Nakasone and OpenAI share a pragmatic approach to data usage, often prioritizing action over explicit permission.
