Meta’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg, has released a video detailing Meta’s guidelines review and community note addition.

Mark Zuckerberg’s tech company Meta has announced plans to review Facebook, Instagram, and Thread’s policies ahead of President Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.

This was announced in a video by Mark Zuckerberg, which stated that the social media company will revise its hate speech guidelines to allow users to describe LGBTQ people as mentally ill.

This decision reached will have an effect on billions of users on social media platforms, where there would be less fact-checking and more community notes just like Elon’s X.

A statement from the revised guidelines state: “We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality and common non-serious usage of words like ‘weird.”

GLAAD, a strong LGBTQ group, has frowned at these announcements by Meta, stating this would only make LGBTQ a target for bullies.
Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD’s president, said in a statement, “Without these necessary hate speech and other policies, Meta is giving the green light for people to target LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups with violence, vitriol, and dehumanizing narratives.”
She further said, the tech company hopes to profit from all of these as they allow anti-hatred speech free on its platforms.
