JUST IN: Tinubu extends Adewale Adeniyi’s tenure as customs CG by 6 months

President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Adewale Adeniyi, comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), by six months. 

Special adviser on information and strategy to the president,  Bayo Onanuga revealed this in a statement on Friday that Adewale Adeniyi’s first tenure extension granted in July 2025 ought to have expired on August 1, 2026.

According to Onanuga, the six-month extension, which is set to end in February 2027, will allow him to secure an orderly succession in the service and consolidate the execution of the national single window.

Adeniyi, in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Board, will oversee the promotion of qualified officers to the position of Comptroller of Customs during the transition period and the mandatory retirement of officers who have reached 60 years of age or have served 35 years.

Meanwhile, Adewale Adeniyi joined the Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 80s.
