The State Department announced on Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s administration has cancelled over 300,000 US visas during his second term, as the federal government presses forward with its wide-ranging immigration crackdown.
Data reveals that the pace of visa revocations has accelerated in recent weeks.
Previously, on August 10, the State Department reported that more than 175,000 visas had been revoked since the start of Trump’s current term in January 2025.
While Trump maintains that the deportation drive and immigration crackdown aim to bolster national security, rights organizations argue that the measures infringe upon due process and free speech rights, creating a hostile climate particularly for ethnic minorities who fear racial profiling.
Announcing the development on X, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the Trump administration “has revoked more visas at a faster pace than any administration in history.”
Pigott also added that the administration had “zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud, or undermine our national security.”
Rights organizations have strongly condemned specific visa revocations, notably those involving foreign pro-Palestinian activists protesting Israel’s military actions in Gaza and non-citizens who commented on social media regarding the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Alongside efforts to deport foreign demonstrators, the Trump administration has introduced heightened social media vetting for immigrants and visa applicants.
Backstory…
Despite focusing his 2024 campaign on curbing illegal border crossings, Trump’s administration has also erected new barriers to legal immigration, including substantial fee increases on select employment visas.
In January 2026, the US State Department announced that it had revoked more than 100,000 US visas, citing criminal activity and violations of immigration rules.
The figure rose to more than 175,000 by August before exceeding 300,000 in October, reflecting an acceleration in enforcement under the administration’s immigration policy.
