Trump Confirms US Negotiations with Four Potential TikTok Buyers

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the US is in talks with four potential buyers for TikTok.

A US law has ordered TikTok to divest from its Chinese owner ByteDance or face a ban in the United States.

He was asked on Sunday if a deal for TikTok was near, to which he replied, “It could be.” He added that the US is dealing with four different groups and that “a lot of people want it.”

The law banning TikTok took effect on January 19 due to concerns that the Chinese government could take advantage of the app to spy on Americans or influence US public opinion.

Following this, tiktok temporarily shut down in the US and was removed from app stores as the deadline approached, disappointing millions of users.

Trump suspended the law’s implementation for two-and-a-half after beginning his second tenure in office, seeking a solution with Beijing. As a result, TikTok restored its services in the US and returned to app stores in February.

According to reports, potential buyers for the app include an initiative called “The People’s Bid for TikTok,” launched by Frank McCourt’s Project Liberty.

Other interested parties include Microsoft, Oracle, and a group involving internet personality MrBeast.

TikTok appears to be in no rush to sell the app.

Recall that he had previously attempted to ban TikTok in the US during his first term, citing national security concerns.
