Trump Slams Iran Nuclear Proposal, Says First Sentence ‘Unacceptable’

US President Donald Trump has firmly rejected Iran’s latest diplomatic proposal, specifically targeting the opening of the document, during his visit to Beijing on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Trump described the first line as “unacceptable” because it failed to meet his demand for a complete suspension of nuclear development. He also accused Iran of breaking earlier promises regarding its nuclear programme.

He told reporters at Beijing Capital International Airport before boarding Air Force One.  “If they have any nuclear of any form, I don’t read the rest.”

Trump said the level of assurance Tehran offered was not enough to satisfy him, adding that Iran had previously agreed to give up its “nuclear dust,” a reference to its stockpile of enriched uranium.

Still, he sounded optimistic about a possible deal, suggesting that the Iranian government would eventually accept his terms.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, on the other hand, made it clear that uranium enrichment is not presently on the agenda.

Araghchi said that although enrichment would be dealt with later, Iran is adamant about not giving up its present stockpile, even if it denies having any plans to develop a nuclear weapon.

Trump’s China visit vs Strait of Hormuz

There is still considerable tension around the Strait of Hormuz. In response to a question about whether Chinese President Xi Jinping would pressure Iran to reopen the vital waterway, Trump said the United States does not “need favors,” while also raising the prospect of “cleanup work.”

Earlier on Friday morning, he said on social media that his campaign was “to be continued!” and suggested that military action could resume, adding that the current month-long calm reflected the success of the U.S. embargo
