Factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has confidently affirmed the party’s readiness for the 2027 general election adding that the PDP will contest the elections in every constituency where elections will be held.
The factional chair stated this on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking at a ceremony to hand over certificates of return to the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Recall that the group aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has also produced several aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, speaking at the event, Turaki, who leads the faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, said the party aims to win elections rather than merely field candidates.
He said, “This is the first of such meetings that we are having since our selection and inauguration as members of the Interim National Working Committee of this great party of ours.

“Since then, after the approval of our timetable by our NEC, we started hitting the ground running. And all of you are witnesses to the respective events that have been carried out by us in very strict collaboration with the state chairmen and chairmen in the 774 local government areas in Nigeria. I want to announce that this collaboration, as always, has been a success.
“And that is why today we can beat our chest to say that PDP will contest elections in every constituency where elections will be held in 2027.
“And it’s not just about contesting, it’s about contesting to win. That is why we sat down carefully and methodically, and we sat down again and then examined each and every one of the individuals that had presented themselves for election as candidates under the platform of our party.
“We’ve done background checks and we are still doing background checks on some of the people that have even emerged because PDP would not want a situation where, for any reason, we win an election and then that victory is taken away from us at the tribunal.”
