Former Super Eagles star calls for balanced attack, urges team to stop relying solely on Osimhen.
Etim Esin, a former Nigerian international, has voiced concerns over the Super Eagles’ attacking strategy, urging the team to move beyond their heavy reliance on star striker Victor Osimhen.
His remarks come amid the fallout between Osimhen and former Super Eagles coach Finidi George, which has stirred significant discussion within Nigeria’s football community.
Esin’s critique stems from the Super Eagles’ recent disappointing performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they managed just one point from matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.
He pointed out that Osimhen missed Finidi’s first two official matches as head coach, which ended in a draw and a defeat. This absence reportedly contributed to alleged remarks by Finidi indicating he wouldn’t plead with Osimhen to represent the national team.
Esin emphasized the need for a more balanced attacking approach, suggesting that over-reliance on Osimhen could hinder the team’s performance and strategic flexibility moving forward.
