Prince Abimbola Owoade has been appointed as the new Alaafin of Oyo State by the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.
Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has officially appointed Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. This was announced in a statement by Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation.
Oyelade confirmed that the Alaafin of Oyo’s selection passed through extensive consultations and traditional divinations by the Oyomesi, the Oyo kingmakers.
A statement from Oyelade reads, “Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo after thorough consultations and divinations.”
Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, emphasized that the new appointment solves whatever rift or issues that came up when the last Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022.
“This appointment concludes the socio-legal controversies that have persisted since the demise of Oba Adeyemi. We call on the people of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and join in celebrating this historic event.
“We trust that his reign will foster progress and harmony in Oyo and uphold the rich legacy of the Alaafin institution,” he said.
The people of Oyo have been encouraged to support the new Alaafin of Oyo as his reign starts on a successful path.
