Seyi Makinde, the executive governor of Oyo State, presented Prince Abimbola Owoade with the staff of office and certificate of appointment as the 46th Alaafin-elect.
This presentation was done on January 13th in the office of the governor and officially marks the ascension of Prince Owoade.
According to reports, Ibadan’s dignitaries, traditional rulers and leaders, government officials, and enthusiastic Oyo indigenes were present at the presentation of the staff of office.
Prince Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, whose reign lasted for five decades.
Governor Makinde spoke during the presentation and emphasized that the Alaafin of Oyo is not just a traditional ruler but also a custodian of the heritage and history of the people. He also expressed his optimism in the Alaafin’s reign to be a kind, wise, patience, and commited.
Prince Owoade expressed his gratitude at being elected as the new Alaafin of Oyo; he also promised to focus on cultural preservation, youth development, and economic growth.
