Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has stated that he will build a nation where peace was possible for opposition and not war.
Responding to mounting criticism about his handling of the Labour Party crisis in a heartfelt and thoughtful moment during a packed XSpace session tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, he stated that those who blame him are ignoring a much deeper issue: the intentional destabilisation of opposition politics by those in power.

“You’re asking me about a party where the same people breaking it are the ones running the government,” Obi said. “This is like demolishing a house and asking the neighbour why the roof fell off.”
Peter Obi maintained that he had handled difficult political situations as a previous governor, such as impeachment, legislatures controlled by the opposition, and severe party divides, with composure, maturity, and a dedication to democratic principles.
Obi denied claims that his inability to oversee national issues is demonstrated by the continuous internal strife within the Labour Party. He claimed that the intolerance and undermining of democratic processes by the ruling class is what causes Nigeria’s political dysfunction rather than the opposition’s weakness.

He compared it to his experience in Anambra, when different parties dominated the Senate and State Assembly delegations yet there was no anarchy during his administration.
“Ask PDP leaders in Anambra if I ever fought them. I worked with everyone. Even when the President came to campaign against me, I gave him an official car. I hosted them. Because leadership is about building, not fighting.”

“In my Nigeria, we won’t spend time breaking each other. We will be busy fixing the country,” Obi concluded, reaffirming his commitment to unity, dialogue, and nation-building.
