The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has urged the income Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission to raise the state’s portion of federal income allocation so that the government can fund more development initiatives.
Following his familiarisation trip and stakeholder engagements throughout the state, Otti made the call on Sunday while receiving Mrs. Nkechi Oti, the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at RMAFC, who gave him a report.
The governor acknowledged that his administration had already shown excellent financial discipline, as evidenced by a recent report from the Debt Management Office, and added that more money from the federation account would enable Abia to carry out important projects.

Governor Alex Otti said, “Anything you can do to help us increase our federal allocation will be very much appreciated by your state and by the government. Once again, thank you for the report. I will take my time and read through it.
“We have a lot of things on our hands. If we get more money to be able to execute them, why not? Particularly, we have also shown financial discipline.
“I am sure you may have seen the report that came out last week, which shows that our state has done well in terms of reduction of debt.
“That could only have happened because we are disciplined in terms of how we spend. We only spend when it is absolutely necessary and for the right reasons.”

Alex Otti also expressed gratitude to the commissioner for her team’s visit and stated that his government is determined to address the issues raised.
He also promised to take immediate action in response to complaints over the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission’s overstaffing.
