Gunmen Brutally Kill 1, Abduct Pregnant Woman, Others In Kogi Church Attack

Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have reportedly abducted kidnapped several of worshippers during in fresh attacks launched on a church in the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to information gathered, more than fifty attackers broke into the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Aiyetoro Kiri on Sunday.

Over 20 worshippers, including children, were reportedly taken away by the gunman who fired randomly during the incident, killing one person.

The attack on the Aiyetoro Kiri church is the community’s second occurrence after bandits recently broke into the area, kidnapping fifty individuals and stealing dozens of phones from a business facility.

Many locals have moved out of the area as a result of the attacks, which have made them fearful.

Similar to this, armed gunmen simultaneously attacked the Oke-Agi and Ilai settlements in the state’s Mopamuro Local Government Area, leaving a path of devastation and hopelessness in their wake.

The attacks, which started at around 4 a.m., are said to have caused multiple fatalities, multiple injuries, and the kidnapping of innocent locals.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants operated for more than an hour, targeting two distinct places nearly simultaneously.

They said that throughout the assault, distress calls from the impacted areas were not promptly answered.

The first event took place in the Jamroro village, which is primarily home to the Tiv ethnic group and is located between Oke-Agi and Takete Isao.

It was discovered that there were casualties as a result of the violence following which the injured victims were transported to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical attention.

Three more people were abducted and one person was killed in a second attack that took place less than a km from Ilai town, close to the Ilai Grammar School.

Residents are grappling with the aftermath of this brutal assault, as fear and anxiety blanket the community.

Meanwhile, the attacks by gunmen have been confirmed by local officials, including Hon. Ademola Bello, the Chairman of Mopamuro Local Government Area, who expressed grave concern over the emergency’s slow reaction.

However, at the time of publishing the story, SP William Ayah, the Public Relations Officer for the Kogi State Police Command, could not be reached for an official statement because his phone lines were still inaccessible.
