Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and one-half of the defunct P-Square duo, has reacted to calls from some fans urging him to retire from music.
The reactions followed comments by some social media users who argued that 44-year-old singer Peter Okoye should no longer be making Afrobeats music at his age.
Speaking during a recent interview on The Beat FM Lagos, Mr P dismissed the idea of retirement in the music industry, insisting that music has no age limit.
He referenced late pop icon Michael Jackson, noting that the singer was still actively making music and preparing for a world tour in his 50s before his death.
Peter Okoye also suggested that some of the people calling for his retirement were simply hoping to see him fail.
“We should be careful of how people try to put othersPeter Okoye down. There’s no retirement in music. I don’t know why some people think there’s retirement in music.
“Michael Jackson was over 50 and was still planning a world tour before he died. It’s only in Nigeria that somebody would just wake up and start calling on musicians to retire. I have seen some people do the same thing to Wizkid,” he said.
