There are indications according to sources that President Bola Tinubu has once again intervened in the ongoing political feud between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.

A very reliable source privy to the development claims that Tinubu called Wike to a meeting over the Rivers issue.

The meeting will take place abroad, according to information obtained by PUNCH from the the Presidential.

Additionally, our correspondents learnt that Fubara allegedly left the nation on a private jet on Thursday with the intention of visiting Tinubu in France.

Fresh impeachment plot against Fubara

This comes amid new impeachment proceeding by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who are allegedly loyal to Wike against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The notice of complaints of gross misconduct against Fubara was read out by Major Jack, the Majority Leader, on Thursday during a plenary session presided over by Speaker of the Assembly Martins Amaewhule.

The seven points of alleged gross misconduct against Fubara include the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding of funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, and refusal to obey the Supreme Court ruling on the financial autonomy of the House.

The accusations made against Fubara and Odu are not far fetched from those made against them before to Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency and their six-month suspension in March 2025.

Following Tinubu’s mediation, Fubara and the FCT minister decided to declare a truce. However, barely 3 months later, Wike accused Fubara of reneging on their agreements, while Fubara made veiled jabs to his former boss.

Wike insists that even after defecting to the All Progressives Congress, the governor would not be able to secure a second term, and the impeachment process is the pinnacle of their current confrontation.

While the APC has condemned the move by the state house to impeach the governor, other figures have pointed out that Wike is largely at the center of this move. Although the spokesperson for the house refuted the claims adding that the fct minister had nothing to do with the impeachment move.

Tinubu’s intervention

Speaking on the fresh impeachment move, the source revealed that the President had intervened.

“The President must see the danger in what Wike is doing, though I am aware that he has summoned him to a meeting in Dubai. You know the President is currently out of the country. Barring any last-minute change, they are expected to meet abroad. Wike cannot impeach Fubara; the President will call him to order,” he said.

The source who spoke on the condition of anonymity described the FCT minister’s action as an affront to the President.

He emphasized that if caution is not applied, the move could push Ijaw youths back to the creeks.
