The monarch said the flood threat has continued to endanger lives and properties across several communities.

Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, made this known on Thursday during a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in Abuja. He used the meeting opportunity to draw attention to the Ibadan flood threat and appealed for urgent federal government intervention to save lives and property.

During the meeting, the traditional ruler called on the Federal Government to assist in addressing the ecological challenges faced by his people. He noted that the flood threat to Ibadan becomes more severe whenever the rains begin.

In a statement made available through his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the Olubadan acknowledged previous efforts by the Federal Government to tackle the problem. However, he lamented that despite those interventions, many residents are still suffering from the flood threats.

The monarch disclosed that hundreds of people in the ancient city continue to battle the recurring flooding. He urged the Federal Government to resolve the issue without further delay, stressing that the situation has persisted for too long.

Ladoja specifically mentioned areas such as Oranyan and Kudeti Agbongbon as communities badly affected by flooding. According to him, residents in these locations live in constant fear due to the Ibadan flooding threat.

The statement said, “He therefore requested the assistance of the Federal Government to help solve the ecological problems threatening the downtrodden people living around the Oranyan, Kudeti Agbongbon area and some other parts of the city that have not been in the spotlight through no fault of theirs.”
