The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has commended the state government for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state, describing the move as a sign of responsible and responsive governance.

A statement issued by the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to protecting public health, improving environmental cleanliness, and encouraging residents to take part in maintaining a sustainable and livable city.
The party noted that Lagos, regarded as one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, requires collective efforts from both the government and residents to ensure environmental sustainability.
According to the statement, the revival of the sanitation exercise demonstrates the determination of the state government to maintain high standards of environmental management while motivating residents to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their communities.
The party also highlighted the historical importance of the sanitation exercise, noting that it once played a significant role in promoting a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents.
It added that the programme would help address sanitation challenges while raising public awareness about proper waste disposal, drainage maintenance, and general environmental hygiene.
The Lagos APC further described the initiative as a strategic step toward strengthening preventive public health measures, reducing environmental risks, and addressing sanitation-related concerns across communities.
The party called on residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations, and civil society groups to support the initiative through active participation.
It stressed that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility and that the success of the exercise will depend largely on the cooperation of all Lagosians.
The statement reads: “The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) warmly welcomes and commends the decision of the Lagos State Government to re-introduce the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across the state.
“This proactive step is a clear demonstration of responsible and responsive governance aimed at safeguarding public health, promoting environmental cleanliness, and strengthening community participation in maintaining a livable city.

“Lagos, as one of Africa’s most vibrant and rapidly growing megacities, requires collective commitment to environmental sustainability. The re-introduction of the sanitation exercise reflects the unwavering determination of the state government to uphold the highest standards of environmental management while encouraging residents to take ownership of their immediate surroundings.
“For decades, the environmental sanitation exercise played a vital role in instilling a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents. Its return will not only help address sanitation challenges but will also promote public awareness about proper waste disposal, drainage maintenance, and environmental hygiene.”
The Lagos APC it views the initiative as another bold step by the state government to strengthen preventive public health measures, reduce environmental hazards, and protect communities from sanitation-related challenges.
“We therefore call on all residents of Lagos State, community development associations, market groups, youth organizations, and civil society stakeholders to embrace this initiative wholeheartedly.
“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility, and the success of this exercise depends largely on the cooperation and active participation of all Lagosians,” the statement said.
The Lagos APC expressed confidence that this policy will significantly contribute to the continued transformation of Lagos into a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable megacity.
