An internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has intensified following the defection of party chieftain Chief Jude Eli Dakur to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he has declared his intention to run in the 2027 governorship election.

Meanwhile, Dakur, a former Plateau State commissioner, made the announcement on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in his hometown, Kerang District, in Mangu Local Government Area.

He explained that his exit from the APC was motivated by his desire to pursue a people-focused agenda centered on inclusiveness, sincerity, and effective governance, adding that the party had strayed from the vision of its dedicated members.

His defection comes just weeks after another party figure and former 2023 governorship aspirant, Brigadier-General John Sura, also left the APC, only three months after joining from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

>>>>>Meanwhile, although Sura did not publicly state his reasons for leaving, political observers link his exit to recent developments within the party, particularly the defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

The wave of defections by Dakur and other key figures in recent months has raised concerns about deepening divisions within the APC, with some analysts warning it could trigger a major internal breakdown.
