The federal government has announced its approval for an increase in allowances and welfare benefits for civil servants to boost morale across the public service.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Walson-Jack said at a press conference on Friday in Abuja that the review affects employees under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS).
Walson-Jack outlined the key changes approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), explaining that the new special allowances will apply across all grade levels and increase earnings for both junior and senior officials.

She also said the government increased key allowances, including duty tour allowance (DTA), estacode, and book allowance.
Walson-Jack added that the government is updating almost every limit in the Public Service Rules.
She further explained that the reform approves 100% DTA for federal personnel attending approved training programmes, whether or not the trip involves travel.
She said, “Even if you are based in Abuja and attend training within Abuja, you are entitled to full DTA.”
Speaking about the benefits plan for retiring civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation announced a new exit scheme that will take effect on January 1, 2026, and give retirees an exit package that includes 100% of their annual salary in addition to their pension.
Walson-Jack said no public employee should leave office without enough financial support, adding that the scheme will help ensure dignity in retirement.
