The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), led by Bala Yunusa Mohammed, has announced the successful completion of the annual verification exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the party, the exercise was carried out in line with INEC’s constitutional role as the regulator of political parties, with officials thoroughly reviewing the NNPP’s administrative structures, membership records, and overall operational capacity.
The NNPP described the smooth conduct of the exercise as a clear and official endorsement of the Bala Yunusa Mohammed-led NWC, affirming it as the legitimate leadership of the party.
In a statement, the party said the outcome “puts to rest the unfounded claims of expelled members and reaffirms our position as the only recognised leadership of the NNPP.”
It also criticised what it called attempts by expelled members to disrupt INEC’s activities at the party’s recognised headquarters, describing their efforts as unsuccessful and a win for democratic processes.
The party further dismissed the reliance of the expelled members on certain court rulings, arguing that such judgments were issued without full knowledge of the party’s internal processes.
NNPP maintained that there is an existing judgment from the Federal High Court in Abuja confirming that those individuals are no longer members of the party, accusing them of withholding key information in subsequent legal proceedings.
It added that the matter would ultimately be resolved at the Supreme Court, expressing confidence that justice would prevail.
The party also stated that it has moved past internal challenges and is now more united and focused as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
As part of its preparations, NNPP revealed that it has already submitted its primary election timetable to INEC, with primaries for all elective positions—including House of Assembly, governorship, National Assembly, and presidential races—scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to be conducted using the consensus method across all wards nationwide.
The party called on Nigerians, particularly youths, women, and professionals, to join its ranks, noting that registration is ongoing across all 8,809 wards in the country’s 774 local government areas.
Reaffirming its commitment to grassroots democracy and inclusiveness, the NNPP expressed optimism about its future, urging members to remain committed while stating that the party is moving forward with renewed strength and purpose.
