Rufai Oseni, an anchor with Arise Television, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi remains the most formidable opposition figure capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Monday, Oseni discussed emerging political alignments ahead of the next general election, warning that internal disputes and legal battles may soon arise within the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) following its recent expansion.
He also alleged that there are deliberate efforts within political circles to prevent Obi from contesting in 2027. According to him, political analyses across major parties suggest that Obi is widely seen as the only candidate capable of posing a serious electoral challenge to Tinubu.
Rufai Oseni explained that ongoing strategies may be aimed at keeping Obi off the ballot, adding that such moves could trigger further crises within opposition parties.
He further noted that both Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso recently joined the NDC, where they were formally received by the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, alongside other top officials and supporters at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
