National Security Advisor (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu recently met with US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss terrorist cooperation in West Africa.
Presidential aide Daniel Bwala said in a statement that the summit strengthened Nigeria’s alliance with the United States in the fight against terrorism across the region.
The statement further added that President Bola Tinubu appreciates the partnership and continued support of the US government under President Donald Trump.
It partly reads, “@officialABAT is grateful for @realDonaldTrump’s partnership and continued U.S. training and intelligence support as Nigerian forces intensify operations to dismantle terrorist networks, protect Nigerian Christians, and defend all vulnerable communities.”
“Africa’s largest democracy isn’t wavering. Nigeria stands as a frontline U.S. partner against ISIS, Boko Haram, and rising terror threats across the Sahel.”
Additionally, ‘Secure Nigeria’, an X account dedicated to security matters verified the meeting. Adding that, both countries remain committed to defeating terrorism and strengthening regional security cooperation.
It wrote, “This fight is winnable, and together, the U.S. and Nigeria intend to finish it.”
BACKSTORY…
Recall that, 10 senior Nigerian government officials met with U.S. representatives in Washington, DC, in November 2025 under Ribadu’s leadership. In December 2025 also, the United States Congress sent a delegation to Abuja to meet Ribadu. The delegation included Riley Moore, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, Mario Díaz-Balart, and other senior House members.
Meanwhile, the meetings were driven in part by President Donald Trump’s late-October 2025 designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged violations of religious freedom, followed by his warning of possible U.S. military action if attacks on Christians continued.
