Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold has spoken candidly about the stigma he faces as someone living with Sickle Cell Disease.
During a recent interview with media personality Angela Yee, the ‘Orente’ crooner revealed that many people often react with pity or assume he may not live long whenever he opens up about his health condition.
Adekunle Gold also reflected on one of the most painful moments of his life, recalling how he battled a severe sickle cell crisis at the age of 20 that left him praying for death.
According to the singer, the pain was so intense that even his mother, who would usually discourage such statements, was unable to comfort or correct him that night.

“At 20, I had the craziest crisis of my life. I told God to take my life,” he recalled, adding that the experience felt unbearable at the time.
Despite the struggles, the singer expressed gratitude to God for giving him the strength to keep fighting and surviving the condition.
