Yusuf Buhari, the son of the late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, won the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primary for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.
At the primary election held on Saturday, Yusuf Buhari polled 6,386 votes to defeat Auwal Daura, who scored 322 votes.
Additionally, party leaders described the exercise, which took place across Sandamu, Daura, and Mai’adua local government areas, as peaceful and transparent.
According to Ibrahim, a supervising official, the result represented the preferences of the constituency’s party delegates.

He said, “Yusuf Buhari’s overwhelming victory reflects the enduring political influence and goodwill associated with the Buhari name in the constituency and across the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, the constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates received accreditation for the primary. In total, the party cast 6,708 votes.
Consequently, Yusuf Buhari is expected to contest the federal constituency seat for the APC in the 2027 general elections.
BACKSTORY…
Recall that earlier in April, Yusuf Buhari announced his intention to run for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2027.
Social media was sent into a frenzy with conjecture on Monday night after the disclosure of Yusuf’s purported interest in a seat in the House of Representatives.

In a letter dated April 3 and allegedly signed by himself, Yusuf Buhari announced his intention to run for the federal legislative seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua district on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
Following his declaration, in May, he secured the APC ticket to contest for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
Reports also said Yusuf emerged as the party’s candidate unopposed after stakeholders at a meeting in Katsina on Tuesday, April 28, unanimously adopted him.
