Controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that the United States is showing interest in Nigeria’s natural resources.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Sheikh Gumi described Western nations as exploitative and suggested that the US is increasingly focused on Nigeria’s resource wealth.
He stated that Nigeria should be cautious in dealing with Western powers, arguing that they often act in self-interest.
According to him, “the West is a predator” and attention from the United States is now shifting toward Nigerian resources.

Sheikh Gumi also said that no one sympathises with terrorists, but insisted that patriotic citizens should be concerned about Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He further questioned the need for foreign military involvement, saying aerial strikes on stationary targets do not require external assistance.
The scholar referenced the “Thucydides Trap,” a theory which suggests that rising powers challenging established ones often increase the risk of conflict.
He added that one sign of decline in the United States, in his view, is the rise of what he described as “merchants of dollars and warmongers” over intellectual voices.
