Tension has intensified within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State as dissatisfied senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants from both the southern and northern zones have rejected the party’s consensus arrangement ahead of the forthcoming primaries.

The aggrieved group, led by Senator Danjuma La’ah, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the state government and party leadership, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the consensus process or risk a deepening internal crisis ahead of the senatorial primaries.

The aspirants argued that the method used in selecting candidates contravened both the APC Constitution and the official guidelines governing party nominations.

In a statement, La’ah said, “We, the undersigned House of Representatives aspirants in Kaduna State, and senatorial aspirants across the Kaduna senatorial zones, are formally protesting the recent process used to select candidates in the state’s senatorial districts.”

The group further insisted that the consensus arrangement lacked transparency and failed to reflect democratic principles expected by party members. They warned that failure to reverse the decision within the stipulated time frame could destabilize the party structure in the state.

The dispute adds to a growing wave of internal conflicts across several states, where disagreements over consensus arrangements and direct primaries have led to protests, withdrawals, and factional divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
