The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, formally granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The bail was pegged at the sum of N100 million with additional requirement of one surety of like amount.
According to Justice Joyce Abdulmalik’s decision, the surety must be a resident of Abuja’s Maitama or Asokoro districts and deposit the authentic Certificate of Occupancy for a landed property at the court registry.
The court further ordered that the guarantor must be a federal public official of at least Grade Level 17 and must present proof of salary payments covering a minimum of three months.
It also ruled that a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction must be provided to verify the authenticity of the documents.
In addition, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik mandated that the surety provide an affidavit of means, sign a bail bond, and provide the court registry with a recent passport photo.
El-Rufai was also ordered to deposit all valid foreign passports with the court as part of his bail conditions. He is further required to submit a tax clearance certificate covering the previous six months, along with a verification letter from the surety’s immediate department.
In addition, Justice Abdulmalik directed that the defendant must report to the Department of State Services headquarters by 10 a.m. on the last Friday of every month to sign the attendance register until the case is concluded.
The judge issued a warning that bail would be automatically revoked for noncompliance.
The defendant was also ordered by the court to provide a letter of attestation from the Kaduna Traditional Council Chairman.
