The brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, has announced his intention to run for governor under the Nigerian Democratic Congress, promising to serve just one term if elected.
Ahead of the party’s primary election, he described himself as a “ready, competent, and energetic” candidate committed to restoring peace, stability, and economic prosperity to Rivers State.
He also called for a communal political “uprising” to restore the state’s lost status, adding that it has experienced economic collapse and a loss of dignity.
He said, “I am addressing you today on the occasion of the Nigerian Democratic Party, Nigerian Democratic Congress Party primary elections across states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We are standing on a ground competent, reliable and reputable to restore the soul of Nigeria and restore the soul of River State. The case of the political happenings in Rivers State cannot be overemphasised. The people are feeling for this purpose.”
Additionally, he bemoaned the state’s present political climate and called Rivers “distressed and shortchanged.”
He said, “We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people. We have lost our pride as Rivers people.”
Fubara also stressed the need to maintain the state’s zoning arrangement, insisting that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District must complete its eight-year tenure.
Furthermore, he maintained that people, not money, are the true source of political strength.
In addition, he urged his supporters to turn out in large numbers for the party’s primary election across the state’s 23 local government areas.
He also warned that altering the state’s political rotation system could set a “dangerous precedent.”
