Omoyele Sowore says soldiers have no authority to block protesters from accessing the Presidential Villa.

Omoyele Sowore has stated that the military does not have the authority to stop protesters from accessing the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He made the remarks on Thursday during a peaceful demonstration in the capital, organized to highlight Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.

According to him, the protest group was initially blocked by soldiers stationed at the entrance of the Presidential Villa. He, however, emphasized that the protesters chose not to confront security operatives because the demonstration was intended to remain peaceful.

Sowore further declared that “Aso Rock is Nigerian,” insisting that citizens, when ready, have the right to take control of the Presidential Villa and that no military force can prevent them.

“We had gone to the Villa but they put soldiers in large numbers. It is not as if we cannot push them away but because it is a peaceful protest, we decided not to have any conversation with soldiers or police,” he said.

He added that citizens should not fear security agencies, describing them as public servants funded by taxpayers.

“We are not afraid of soldiers nor police, they should be afraid of us. We are their employers, we pay them,” he said.

Omoyele Sowore also noted that mothers and children were part of the protest to emphasize its peaceful nature.
