It was reported that the NDC had replaced several candidates earlier nominated by the Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano State, allegedly over a breach of a power-sharing agreement.
A document said to have been signed by the Kano State Chairman of the party, Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga, claimed the adjustments were made to align with an earlier agreement on the sharing of party positions and electoral tickets between the existing NDC structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc.
The document, which was reportedly sent to the NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the party’s North-West Zonal Chairman, also revised the list of candidates for both federal and state assembly seats.
Reacting to the development, the National Spokesperson of the Kwankwassiyya Movement, Habib Mai-Lemo, dismissed the claims, saying due process was followed in selecting candidates from Kwankwaso’s camp.

He expressed surprise over the report, adding that the Kwankwassiyya Movement would, for now, treat it as unverified information.
Mai-Lemo stated that the state party chairman and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were part of the processes that produced the candidates, insisting that proper procedures were followed.
He further explained that all aspirants participated in either consensus arrangements or primaries without obstruction, noting that no formal complaints were raised during the process.
According to him, “Kwankwaso did not sell nomination forms; the party did, and the processes were followed through either consensus or primaries.
“All our candidates went through the proper procedures from beginning to end. We did not receive any complaints at any stage.
“We are not aware of any valid reason for these changes and we have not received an official copy of the alleged letter. For now, we consider it a rumour until confirmed.”
