US-Iran Deal to Be Signed Sunday, Strait of Hormuz to Reopen Immediately- Trump

Donald Trump announced that the United States and Iran will sign a deal on Sunday, claiming that the agreement would lead to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump also said the deal would improve relations between the two countries and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

He made the announcement on Saturday via his Truth Social platform.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier confirmed that an agreement was imminent. In a X tweet, he said, “We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week.”

Recall that Pakistan has played a key mediating role in the negotiations between the United States and Iran.

On Friday, Abbas Araghchi, Iranian foreign minister, said a deal “has never been closer”, although he did not give a timeline for the agreement.

BACKSTORY

Through both direct and indirect channels, Washington and Tehran have been exchanging draft proposals for several months. However, before returning to the negotiating table, both sides have rejected, revised, or sought changes to key provisions.

As a result, the talks have yet to produce a breakthrough due to conflicting demands and repeated setbacks.

If the agreement is eventually signed as expected, it could bring an end to a nearly five-month conflict and mark the most significant diplomatic progress since the crisis began.

Both sides agreed a ceasefire in April, but have continued to mildly exchange fire, including two rounds of strikes this week.
This latest development comes shortly after President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s missile capabilities have been severely depleted, adding that Tehran now has only a fraction of the arsenal it had before recent hostilities.
