The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that an explosion, suspected to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), injured one person in a commercial area of Mushin.
Speaking to journalists at the scene on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Fatai Tijani, confirmed the incident at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin.
He also stated that the police immediately deployed officers to the scene after receiving reports of the incident, including specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.
He said, “We received reports of an explosion and immediately sent our EOD unit to the scene. The area was quickly sealed off and thoroughly inspected,” Tijani said.
“The IED was placed under the passenger side of the vehicle. It exploded when the vehicle was started.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has declared Mushin safe following explosion
The Command further clarified the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, visited Mushin for an on-the-spot assessment after a distress call alleging an explosion was received in the early hours of the day.
Additionally, the CP urged residents of Mushin and its environs to remain calm and continue their lawful activities. He also reassured them of adequate security deployment to safeguard lives and property.
Meanwhile, this comes few days after afire outbreak occurred at a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State.
Videos and clips making rounds on social media captured thick smoke billowing from the building as residents and business operators gathered around the scene.

The police assurance follows heightened concern in Mushin after a 2025 blast on Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba, which officials linked to a scavenger attempting to dismantle military-grade explosives.
At the time, the explosion killed the scavenger and injured three other people. Findings later showed that the man was holding one of the grenades when it detonated.
