LASTMA unveils toll-free 3367 emergency hotline for Lagos motorists

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced a new toll-free emergency short-code, 3367, in a move aimed at improving emergency response, strengthening traffic management, and boosting public participation in road transportation administration across the state.

The agency said the new hotline replaces its former long-service communication code with a more accessible and technologically advanced platform designed to improve engagement between LASTMA and residents.

According to the agency, the 3367 short-code is free for subscribers on MTN, Etisalat (T2), and Glo networks, allowing motorists and residents to report traffic-related emergencies without any call charges.

LASTMA noted that the platform would enable road users to quickly report incidents such as broken-down vehicles, road crashes, stranded tankers, disabled trucks, traffic blockages, and other emergencies requiring urgent intervention.

The agency added that the hotline would also provide residents with an avenue to report the conduct and activities of LASTMA officials, a step geared towards promoting transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

To ensure inclusiveness, LASTMA said callers can communicate with operators in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin English, a multilingual approach aimed at removing communication barriers and encouraging wider public participation.

Speaking on the development, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the initiative as a significant milestone in building a safer, smarter, and more responsive traffic management system in Lagos.

He said the new short-code reflects the agency’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation to tackle transportation challenges and deepen collaboration with road users.

Bakare-Oki stressed that with Lagos continuing to expand as one of Africa’s largest megacities, there is a growing need for proactive and technology-driven traffic management systems capable of responding swiftly to emerging road challenges.

He assured residents that all reports made through the platform would be treated professionally and confidentially before being escalated to relevant operational units for immediate action.

He also urged Lagos residents and motorists to make use of the hotline to improve road safety, strengthen accountability, and support efforts towards a more efficient transportation system.

BACKSTORY…

The launch of the 3367 toll-free emergency hotline by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is part of the agency’s broader push to modernise traffic management and improve response time to road emergencies in Lagos.

Over the years, Lagos has battled persistent gridlock, frequent road accidents, broken-down vehicles, and tanker obstructions, all of which often worsen congestion and delay emergency interventions. LASTMA has repeatedly faced criticism over slow response times and limited communication channels for reporting incidents.

The agency previously operated a longer service code for emergency communication, but the introduction of the simpler 3367 short-code is aimed at making it easier and faster for residents to reach traffic officials at no cost.

The move also aligns with the Lagos State Government’s wider adoption of technology-driven solutions to improve public services, transportation management, and accountability in one of Africa’s busiest megacities.
