President Bola Tinubu has outlined the reasons behind his approval of the recent reforms to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In a statement shared on his verified X account on Wednesday, the President said the reforms are designed to provide young Nigerians with practical skills and better prepare them to contribute to national development.
According to Tinubu, the changes, which were approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday, align with his administration’s commitment to creating
meaningful opportunities for the youth.
He noted that one of the promises he made upon assuming office was to ensure that young people and women play a significant role in his government, adding that the NYSC reforms represent part of that commitment.
Tinubu acknowledged that the NYSC scheme has played a vital role in promoting national unity since its establishment in 1973, but stressed that the evolving realities of the country now require a fresh and more practical approach.
