Former Big Brother Naija winner, Mercy Eke, has revealed that she sometimes regrets participating in the reality television show, saying the fame that came with it has negatively impacted her search for a life partner.
The reality star made the disclosure while reflecting on her dating experiences and the challenges she has faced in finding lasting love since leaving the show.
Speaking during an emotional conversation with Toke Makinwa, Mercy explained that her celebrity status has complicated her relationships, adding that financial imbalance has become a recurring issue despite her genuine desire to build a stable and lasting future with someone.
Regretting going for the show, she said, “I regret going to Big Brother even though I love the benefits that come from it. I dey fall in love like mumu, now I said to myself that I want to marry, I want to marry but it’s not easy.
“I have dated guys that I have given a lot of money to, not one not two, because they don’t have”, she said.
BACKSTORY:
Mercy Eke rose to national prominence in 2019 after making history as the first woman to win Big Brother Naija, clinching the coveted grand prize during the “Pepper Dem” edition of the reality show. Her victory transformed her into one of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV stars, opening doors to lucrative endorsement deals, business opportunities, acting roles, and a successful career as an entrepreneur and influencer.
Since leaving the BBNaija house, Mercy has built a strong personal brand and remained one of the franchise’s most successful alumni. However, her personal life—particularly her relationships—has continued to attract public attention.
Over the years, the reality star has been linked to several high-profile relationships, including her widely publicised romance with fellow BBNaija star Ike Onyema. Their relationship, which began during the show, eventually ended, with both parties moving on separately. Since then, Mercy has occasionally spoken about the difficulties of dating while living in the public eye.
In recent years, she has repeatedly hinted at her desire to settle down and start a family but has admitted that finding a compatible partner has not been easy. According to her, her financial success, fame, and celebrity status often create an imbalance in relationships, making it difficult to build genuine connections with potential partners.
Speaking during an emotional interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, Mercy Eke reflected on these struggles, revealing that she sometimes regrets participating in Big Brother Naija because of how the fame has affected her personal life. Despite her achievements, she said she longs for a stable relationship and believes that her public profile has complicated her chances of finding lasting love.
