A three-story building collapsed on Monday night in Wuse Zone 4 of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with no casualties reported as of the time of filing.
Providing an update on the incident, Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, confirmed that emergency rescue operations are currently underway at the scene.
He stated that personnel from the FCT Fire Service are on-site, supported by three pre-positioned ambulances to provide immediate medical assistance if needed.
Olayinka further disclosed that the building’s occupants had been served an eviction notice earlier on Monday by the FCTA Department of Development Control after the structure began exhibiting visible signs of structural failure.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the police immediately deployed a reaction team to the area.
Adeh said personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Federal Fire Service, Department of State Services, Federal Capital Territory Administration and other relevant emergency agencies joined the team.
She said initial investigations showed that the Department of Development Control had already tagged and sealed the structure.
Adeh added that no casualties had been confirmed as of the time of the statement, while search operations continued to determine whether anyone remained trapped beneath the debris.
She said, “So far, no victims have been confirmed. However, search and rescue operations are still ongoing to identify and rescue any persons who may be trapped in the rubble.”
According to the command, authorities were also investigating the circumstances and possible cause of the collapse.
The police urged residents to avoid the affected area and remain calm and security-conscious. The command said this would allow emergency personnel to carry out rescue operations effectively.

The most recent Abuja building collapse comes just few months after a similar incident happened around the Gudu area of the city.
On May 16, a three-story structure under construction in Abuja, Durumi 3 neighbourhood, close to Gudu market, collapsed, leaving at least five reported dead.
The incident happened few months after a two-story structure under construction collapsed at Jikwoyi, within the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Abuja Municipal Area Council, injuring six people.
