Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has distanced himself from the OK Movement Presidential Campaign Council.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, Obi stated that he played no role in the formation of the council.
The campaign council was recently established ahead of the 2027 general elections by the OK Movement, a group headed by John Ughulu.
In response to the development, Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the NDC, condemned the move as “nonsensical” and called for strict measures to reign in the OK Movement.
Reacting, Obi said, “I’m not involved. The NDC is the political party we all belong to, and I agree entirely with the position of the leader.
“OK Movement, Obidient, Kwankwasiyya and other groups are supporting groups. They must play their role as supporting groups supporting the party.
“They should not play the role of the party. We found a situation where one of the supporting groups is using the nomenclature and forming a presidential campaign council. It shouldn’t be. No.”

Peter Obi’s decision to distance himself from the OK Movement’s campaign council follows a dispute that has emerged between the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the support group over the structure of the 2027 presidential campaign.
The disagreement began on September 17, when the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, popularly known as the OK Movement, announced a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council to mobilise support for Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The structure included a Director-General, national and zonal coordinators and directors overseeing areas such as mobilisation, strategy, security and legal affairs.
The NDC quickly rejected the council, saying it had not authorised its creation or announcement. National Chairman Moses Cleopas said only the party leadership could constitute and announce the official Presidential Campaign Council because Obi and Kwankwaso were contesting under the NDC platform.
