Fort Hood Shooter: Pentagon To Livestream Nidal Hasan’s Military Execution

A Pentagon official confirmed on Thursday that the execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan will be broadcast via livestream. The announcement follows Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s declaration that the process would be made “public”.

Hasan, a former US Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded dozens of others during a 2009 mass shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas.Scheduled for December 3, his sentence will mark the US military’s first execution by firing squad since World War II, as well as its first military execution of any kind since 1961.

“It will be livestreamed. Details will follow,” the Pentagon official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Hegseth had said in a video posted on X by official Pentagon accounts earlier Thursday that Hasan is “going to get a firing squad of soldiers, as it should be, and we’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public.”

“People need to understand that…there’s serious consequence for these types of things,” Hegseth told right-wing influencer Jack Posobiec while aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.

Hegseth noted that Hasan’s sentence would mark the US military’s first execution by firing squad since World War II, explicitly referencing Private Eddie Slovik—the last US soldier executed for desertion, in January 1945.

In a different clip, Posobiec asked the Pentagon chief if Hasan had made any final request.

However, Hegseth said, “Don’t care. We’ll see him on December 3,” — the day Hasan is slated to die.

Backstory…

U.S. President Donald Trump has approved the execution by U.S. Army firing squad of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting in Texas that killed 13 people and wounded more than 30 others.

The announcement was made Monday by the Pentagon, confirming that Trump endorsed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s recommendation to carry out the capital sentence.Under the authorization, the Secretary of the Army will determine the date and location of the execution.

If carried out, Hasan’s execution will mark the first time the U.S. military has executed a service member in over sixty years. It will also mark the first military execution by firing squad since the end of World War II.
